Christmas is just around the corner. Even in this digital age, sending Christmas cards is one of the most personal and meaningful ways to let our loved ones know, near and far, that we are thinking of them during the Christmas season.
It is something special to receive a physical handwritten Christmas card by post, which is probably why hundreds of thousands of Christmas cards are still sent every year in Switzerland.
But instead of sending an ordinary Christmas card to your family and friends this year, why not create something more original with some of your own photos, the Bookfactory Card Editor and a healthy dose of creativity? Here are a few tips to get you started.
The design of your own Christmas cards means that you will have plenty of freedom in terms of images and layout. Why not take advantage of this and make them as individual as possible? You can add a funny photo, an insider joke or a clever one-liner, depending on who the cards are for.
With the card editor you can add text to all pages of your Christmas card both online and in the approval software. You can also choose from different layout options with text boxes or draw your own so it's a great chance to be creative with different texts, fonts and colors.
Of course, you will most likely include the usual "Merry Christmas" or "Merry Holidays", but since you design the card yourself, the possibilities are limited only by your imagination.
If you want to design a photo card that creates the Christmas feeling, the colours you choose are very important. The classic Christmas colours are of course green, red and white, but if you want your card to have a lighter, more modern look, you can also combine it with colours such as silver, gold or black.
Whatever colour you choose, try to stick to two or three different colours, or your card may end up looking as if Christmas has exploded all over it. ;-)
EIt can be tempting to use the entire space for photos, text and other graphics or illustrations. However, leaving some space is an important part of the design process.
If you leave enough white space between the photo and the edges of the card and the text, attention will be drawn to your main motif, while using any available space on the card can make it look overloaded and confusing.
Christmas cards with a photo of the whole family have always been popular. It's also not wounding when you consider that they are not only more personal than general photos of Christmas trees or snowy landscapes, but are also a great incentive to take a photo as a family every year.
